The Associate Director is a senior member of the administrative team that works toward the delivery of a comprehensive program to ensure that students with disabilities are accommodated as mandated by federal civil rights legislation. This responsibility incorporates an appreciation for both the letter and the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended in 2008. The Associate Director reports to the Director for Disability Support Services.
Specific Duties: Maintenance of a student caseload to include the registration process, eligibility and accommodation determination Coordinates priority registration services for eligible students during the week of early registration Leads the unit in weekly staff meetings during which eligibility for and approval of reasonable accommodation takes place Plans and provides counseling services to advance the academic success of students including self-advocacy skills, developmental learning strategies, organization and time management Maintains accurate and confidential student records to reflect the quality of services and outcomes Serve as the lead coordinator for the department in support of the Assessment requirements of the Division of Student Affairs Consult with faculty and staff regarding the accommodation process Provide training and information sessions related to disability trends and topics Supervise two Graduate Assistants 10 hours per week each from the Department of Psychology Serve on University Committees as assigned by the Director Teach COAD 1000 with a primary focus on incoming freshmen with disabilities Assists the director in other duties as assigned

A master's degree in Rehabilitation Studies, Learning Disabilities, Special Education, Counseling, Student Development, Psychology or related field. Attention to detail is critical. Assessment background. Ability to meet deadlines despite numerous interruptions and a heavy workload. Experience with and sensitivity to working with individuals with disabilities. Understanding of the ADA as it relates to higher education. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
