Under general supervision from a designated administrator, provide database support for a team of IT professionals.
Identifies database requirements; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems.
Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, and database security.
Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements
Supports developers and users by conducting training; providing information; resolving problems.
Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities, including SSIS and SQL Reporting Server Reports
Maintains quality service by enforcing organization standards and contributing to continuous improvement in these standards as part of the database team.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Review database development including databases, procedures, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Server reports, and Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services packages for other team members and for application developers.
Understand the Oracle Data Cache Structure of the student information system and work with other DBAs to import student data from the People Soft Student Data System.
Convert older technologies to newer technologies as needed in our mixed server environment.
Design databases to meet application requirements and following our standards on Microsoft SQL server.
Write Stored Procedures, T-SQL Code, SQL Server Integration packages and SQL Server Reporting Server reports as needed to match application requirements. Create and maintain jobs to perform batch operations.
Migrate database objects and data when requested and review the code for standards and performance efficiency. Follow all procedures for Change Management and use tools provided to aid in this effort.
Ensure the integration of systems through the database structure. Monitor database standards and procedures, systems usage and performance.
Lead training to aide application developers to learn new database techniques and improve and standardize SQL/database development.
Responsible for database security including user logins/roles. Automate maintenance tasks as needed.
Monitor database performance and availability by evaluating query plans, index structures, buffer pools, and purchased tools, alerts, etc.
Troubleshoot Production issues on SQL servers used by UCIT
Work as part of a scrum team to design and develop databases, support importing source data via SSIS, supporting the developers and support the customer as needed with reports or data needs.
Research data issues and report data as needed to reduce duplication of data or problems. Understand the data in our systems and the student information system and others, to aide in import or exporting of data.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related degree with two (2) years' experience; -OR- an Associate's degree with four (4) years' experience ; or six (6) years of intermediate level related experience. Possesses a thorough understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures and contributes through experience, collaboration and problem resolution.
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SSIS, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting server highly desired. Experience with no SQL databases is a plus.
