The Research Assistant II ispart of the Department of Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University and is a keyindividual contributor responsible for maintaining laboratory organization andconducting experiments with moderate supervision. Reporting will be directly tothe Principal Investigator and/or a Research Assistant Professor in thelaboratory.
The Department of Pharmacologyis a vibrant and interdisciplinary environment for cutting-edge research. Theresearch group studies cell signal transduction and is developing biologics(e.g., antibodies) recognizing key signaling proteins of biomedical importance.Research personnel in the laboratory are very interactive and highlycollaborative, working with both internal and external investigators toincrease our understanding diseases characterized by deregulated cell signaling.
Duties and Responsibilities
The purpose of this positionis to provide support for a research laboratory. The Research Assistant II willwork closely with the Principal Investigator and a Research Assistant Professorto maintain organization and efficient functioning of the laboratory.
Prepare reagents andbuffers.
Follow Universitysafety protocols.
Perform basic molecularbiology and biochemical experiments.
Work with laboratorymembers to keep inventory stocked and instrumentation operational.
Perform agarose gelelectrophoresis (DNA, RNA) and SDS-polyacrylacrylamide electrophoresis(protein), Western blotting, and antibody characterizations.
Perform independentexperiments using established protocols to advance the research of thelaboratory.
Provide appropriatewritten documentation of experiments.
Establish and maintainmammalian cell lines and perform basic cell culture experiments.
Order supplies; handleshipments to and from the laboratory.
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
Bachelor's degree inthe sciences is required.
Two years of researchexperience is preferred.
Specific experience inantibody applications is preferred.
Excellent organizationand communication skills.
Highly motivated andgoal-oriented.
