The Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations for the position of Building Manager, Student Union. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.

The Division: The Division of Student Life is comprised of over 400 staff that serve our students through 19 departments and functions. Staff are actively engaged in the lives of our students, living and learning with them in our residence halls, student union, and other campus environments. The Position: The Student Union is a comprehensive department that provides an array of services in support of the University's mission. The Building Manager provides facility oversight and management for events/meetings scheduled to utilize Student Union space, serving as lead professional staff person when other professional Union staff are unavailable. The Building Manager coordinates with other Union professional staff to maintain continuity/consistency of Union services and operations; engage in pre-event planning, providing guidance and direction to users; provide and facilitate event support including audio-visual, technical, and event furniture set-up for Union users; assist with event crowd management; monitor services, safety, and security of Union; identify and resolve immediate operation issues within the facility; diffuse difficult situations with creative problem solving, making exceptions to policies/practices/procedures as appropriate; clear and secure the Student Union at closing, ensuring all facility spaces are locked; and analyze, enforce, and make recommendations regarding building policies and procedures. The Building Manager will provide direct support of events occurring within the Student Union Auditorium, a 997 seat state of the art theatre space and associated Box Office.
The Building Manager assists with coordination of the student employee program including hiring, and training of student building managers, information desk employees, loading dock managers, set-up crews, and audio-visual and technical crews; provide direct supervision and evaluation of the student staff; ensure appropriate testing and training on all technical systems, procedures and policies; approve payroll; develop and maintain operating and training manuals; provide direction to building facility services staff; and assist with supervision of custodial staff.
The Building Manager interacts with students, faculty, staff, and guests; build positive working relationship with campus and community partners by managing on-site facility and customer relations issues, conflicts, and problems.
