The Department of Anesthesia at the IU School of Medicine recognizes research as the foundation of the academic program. The overarching goal of the department's research programs is to improve the quality of patient care in perioperative and pain medicine.
Our faculty participate in multidisciplinary research with emphasis on pharmacogenomics of opioids, personalized pain management, mechanisms of chronic pain and traumatic brain injury.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and skilled Clinical Research Nurse who will work closely with our faculty in support of this exciting mission.
In this key role, you will initiate, conduct, complete, and report clinical studies/trials for the IUSM Department of Anesthesia at assigned hospital locations on Campus.
Assign and coordinate activities of study sites to ensure protocol, regulatory and standard operating procedures (SOP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) compliance. Develop solutions to complex problems that impact the timely and accurate conduct of clinical research.

REQUIRED: BSN, plus 2 years clinical research experience; OR ASN, plus 2 years clinical nursing experience; OR LPN/Diploma in nursing, plus 3 years clinical nursing experience.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of IRB and research compliance. This position requires excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to develop and maintain rapport with professionals and study participants. It requires knowledge and understanding of related assessments, research methods, and study protocol. Ability to work as a team player, maintain accurate and organized records, and work with some level of independence. Strong interpersonal skills and extensive judgment are required to appropriately respond to participants’ well-being, demeanor, and abilities. Proficient use of computers, strong attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task are also necessary in this position.
Must be able to multi-task and prioritize different studies on an as needed basis. Requires continuous learning and the ability to work with numerous distractions.
2 years clinical research experience. Phlebotomy experience.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Hospital setting. Patient facing position. Keyboarding skills to perform necessary duties, communicating, detecting, some moving to on-campus facilities will be required, as well as mobility to administer certain medical laboratory procedures.
