IUPUI Campus Health—an outpatient ambulatory clinic serving employees and students—is seeking a medical assistant to be a part of our health care team. In this role you will provide a variety of patient care services including greeting and rooming patients, assisting providers with exams, and general clerical duties necessary for the successful operation of IUPUI Campus Health. You will have an opportunity to travel to satellite locations to provide fit testing and assist with flu and TST clinics. This role is ideal for a service-oriented and detailed team player who enjoys multitasking and collaborating with medical professionals to deliver quality health care services. The individual in this position will support patient services and clinic operations by:
Greeting patients upon arrival to the clinic and escorting to an exam room. Obtaining medical history, height, weight and vital signs accurately documenting the medical and social history in the electronic medical record.
Assisting physician or nurse practitioner during patient examinations. Completing ordered treatments, including phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, ear lavage; applying basic dressings and bandages; administering immunizations and therapeutic injections; preparing specimens for transport to laboratories, and making referral appointments as directed.
Performing general clerical duties in support of patient services, including but not limited to answering phones, making photocopies, faxing, typing, completing forms and performing data entry.
Conducting fit testing to ensure health care providers have a mask that fits appropriately, has a good seal and does not leak, and completing the appropriate documentation. This requires occasional travel to on and off campus (statewide) locations, transporting, and setting up the fit testing equipment.
The successful candidate will have excellent physical assessment and phlebotomy skills and an attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple requests from patients and colleagues simultaneously. Will possess strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate professionalism, build and maintain positive relationships, effectively work with people of different cultures, maintain confidentiality, and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization both verbally and in writing. Will take responsibility for solving problems, making improvements, and delivering quality services with a customer-focused mindset.
REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED, completion of a certified medical assistant program, and 1 year of experience as a medical assistant.
Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association, certification for PPD Administration & Reading through the American Lung Association.
Data entry, basic computer skills and basic math skills as well as knowledge of various laboratory standards and medical procedures. Excellent physical assessment skills and phlebotomy skills. Possess strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate professionalism, build and maintain positive relationships, effectively work with people of different cultures, maintain confidentiality, and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization. Take responsibility for solving problems, making improvements, and delivering quality services with a customer-focused mindset.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without an accommodation, perform chest compressions and rescue breathing, and drive 3-4 hours to off-campus locations.
