The primary purpose of the position is to supervise and lead technical staff for the administration and support of the University's Enterprise Linux Systems. This position provides advanced level technical expertise in the day-to-day administration, systems analysis and technical support of server based operating systems. This includes rackmount servers, blade systems, database appliances, VMWare and OpenStack Virtual Machines (VMs) and other devices including local storage and switches. The primary Operating System focus is Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux, however the position will support other operating systems and platform technologies including OpenStack, Red Hat Satellite Server, Red Hat Capsule Server, and cloud-centric technologies. This position will supervise the day-to-day activities of technical staff, coordinating and assigning work, monitoring and evaluating staff performance and developing training plans. This position will function as the resident subject matter expert for Linux technologies and will be responsible for setting the team's technical direction in delivering secure, highly available, scalable and robust compute infrastructures. As such, this position will support and drive IT Automation of OpenStack Heat Templates, Ansible playbooks, Puppet modules, git repositories, Jenkins pipelines, Kickstart templates, cloud images, shell scripts, python scripts, and many other cloud-centric technologies.

The primary purpose of the Enterprise Linux team is to provide day-to-day systems administration, systems analysis, and technical support for the University's Enterprise Systems environment. Enterprise systems are classified as those server resources required to power mission critical and/or core computational infrastructure for the University. This includes ECU's Enterprise Resource Planning systems, Course Delivery and Distance Education, Email, Active Directory, and the Enterprise level Virtual and compute infrastructures. The broader group installs, configures and maintains various server hardware including x86, blade servers, and other similar servers, virtual servers (VMware, OpenStack), and rack mount servers. The broader team is responsible for OS administration and support of Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), SUSE, OEL, VMware ESX, and Red Hat OpenStack. The team also supports the University's Virtual and Blade Infrastructure. The team's primary mission is to ensure secure, highly available and robust computing platforms to power the University's mission critical applications.
