Under the direction of the Senior Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development, initiates, develops and implements strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of entry, annual and leadership prospects. The blended portfolio for this position is focused both on emerging campaign priorities such as campus-wide Student Support and Success as well as the Division of Social Sciences, with a focus on growing the philanthropic pipeline with General Campus alumni. The incumbent is responsible for the initial contact of newly identified prospective donors (alumni and friends) to qualify and to promote interest in providing philanthropic support for UC San Diego's programs and priorities.
Incumbent will cultivate and solicit prospects for gifts of $25K-$100K+ with an emphasis on donor development and will work collaboratively with development officers and other colleagues across Advancement to optimize gift support. In addition, they will provide strategic development support for University Development operations. In addition, this position will play a critical role in building the pipeline of donors for key divisional and campus priorities such as research and innovation, faculty support, capital projects, and access to education.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
Progressive development experience in a complex organization including frontline fundraising experience and closing gifts of $25K+.
Proven experience interacting successfully with donors, prospective donors, faculty and staff and community members. Demonstrated ability to engage prospects in major gift conversations and basic planned giving conversations.
Demonstrated knowledge in creating written, strategic prospect engagement, cultivation, and stewardship strategies including both short-term and long-term giving goals.
Proven experience developing new programs to broaden donor base and enhance institutional outreach.
Strong portfolio management including donor qualification/cultivation/stewardship.
