GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Teach English to adult learners of English in intensive academic English and community-based ESL programs. Responsible for direct teaching of students according to curriculum guidelines so that students can progress through a multi-level learning structure.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: n/a
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Teachers report to the director of Community Education and English Language Programs. Their teaching is also overseen and supported by the academic coordinator of the ELP.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement classroom learning opportunities according to curriculum guidelines; interact with students in an academic advising capacity; provide reporting of a syllabus according to curriculum standards, student evaluations and records, as directed; and interact with other teachers and staff in a positive, supportive idea-sharing environment.
Classes are taught on the campus of FSU in the daytime (intensive program) and evenings and Saturdays (community ESL program). Tutoring sessions, according to pre-arranged schedules, are also taught on FSU campus.
A master degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) or applied linguistics is preferred. A master degree in a related field with specific coursework or training in TESOL methodology and theory will be considered.
A bachelor degree in a related field with training in TESOL methodology or applied linguistics will be considered for community ESL courses only.
This posting is for potential part-time non-benefited, contract positions, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The pay rate is $48.50 per class hour with no additional compensation for preparation time.
