TheOffice of Research & Engagement seeks an experienced professional tocontribute to the growth of strategic research and innovation throughout theUniversity of Tennessee, Knoxville by developing key relationships between theuniversity and federal mission agencies, their laboratories, and potentialresearch partners.The Office ofResearch & Engagement is seeking candidates who have the ability tocontribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of theUniversity.
ThePortfolio Director will advise investigators on emerging research andengagement opportunities and with strategic planning using businessintelligence and information gained or extrapolated from direct contact withfederal program offices and others in the R&D community. In addition, thePortfolio Director will explore opportunities for strategic researchpartnerships with organizations external to UTK. The Portfolio Director willserve as an active facilitator in connecting University investigators withagency staff to capitalize on the strengths of the research program at theUniversity of Tennessee, Knoxville and to meet the ongoing needs of the agency.The Portfolio Director will maintain relationships with agency representativesto enhance the research competitiveness of investigators. The Portfolio Directorwill also collaborate with the Office of Research & Engagement team toprovide programmatic direction to the Science Alliance (SA), a Tennessee HigherEducation Commission Center of Excellence focused upon creating and fostering astrong collaborative bond between the University of Tennessee, Knoxville andthe Oak Ridge National Laboratory. SA initiatives are inclusive of theDistinguished Scientist Program, the Joint Directed Research and DevelopmentProgram (JDRD), SA sponsored graduate student fellowships and other missioncongruent programs and activities.
Knowledgeof and experience working in or with federal mission agencies or theirassociated research laboratories such as the Department of Energy (DOE),Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Commerce, National Aeronautics andSpace Administration (NASA), or the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Strongoral communication skills and the ability to translate broad and diversesubject areas including highly complex scientific and technical areas tolayman's terms.
Avisionary and goal oriented individual with demonstrated experience inplanning, developing, and implementing research programs and with organizingevents such as conferences, workshops, and symposia to showcase universityresearch capabilities.
Abilityto build trust, credibility, and working relationships with internal andexternal partners as well as a demonstrated capacity to work effectively on ateam or independently.
