Description: 2-3 postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Junfang Wu, Department of Anesthesiology & the Shock, Trauma and Anesthesiology Research (STAR) Organized Research Center at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA. Our research focuses on mechanisms of secondary injury processes after experimental spinal cord and brain injury (SCI/TBI) and pharmacological/gene therapeutic interventions for CNS trauma. Projects include: (1) Elucidating molecular mechanisms responsible for SCI-induced brain neuroinflammation. (2) Examining the function and mechanisms of voltage-gated proton channels Hv1 on neuroinflammation and neuropathic pain after SCI and TBI. (3) Identifying effects of plasma exosomes following CNS trauma as well as physiologically informed engineering of therapeutic exosomes for SCI/TBI repair.
A Ph.D. and/or MD degree is required with training in Neuroscience, Molecular/Cell Biology, pharmacology, and/or a related field. Candidates should be highly motivated and independent with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment. They should have exceptional organizational skills and strong oral and written communications skills. Additional requirements include:
Experience with animal models of SCI and TBI (mouse and rat) is preferred;
Experience in flow cytometry, Ca2+ measurement in vitro and in vivo with two-photon microscopy, as well as qPCR are highly desirable;
Experience with immunohistochemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, as well as behavioral tests (cognition, motor function, depression, pain) is preferred.
Primary neuronal and/or glial cell culture, with MACS® Technology are welcome.
