Wells College seeks outstanding candidates to serve as Alumnae/i Engagement Officer. The successful candidate will focus on the cultivation of alumnae and alumni to strengthen their ties to Wells College. Reporting to the Director of Alumnae/i Engagement, the Alumnae/i Engagement Officer is responsible for building relationships with Wells alumni to engage them in activities that will enhance the future of our college. This position will implement a strategic approach to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward our Alumnae/i as partners, advocates, and investors. This position will play a vital role in helping the advancement office achieve its engagement and alumni participation goals and serves the essential needs of Wells College and the meets the desires of alumnae/i, including, but not limited to, admissions, academic and student life support, career services, class and affinity groups.
Responsibilities: • Under the direction of the Director of Alumnae/i Engagement and other senior leaders of the advancement office, the engagement officer designs, develops, and manages alumnae/i engagement opportunities and programming to engage, cultivate, and educate alumni, parents, friends and students on personal, professional and intellectual levels to encourage their increasing support to Wells College • Manages all regional engagement opportunities and programming evites and newsletters via email and telephone • Enhances and fosters deeper partnerships, engagement opportunities and programming with campus departments including, but not limited to, the Office of Advancement, the Career Center, the Office of the Provost/Academic Affairs, and Admissions. • Communicates, collaborates, and coordinates with the Advancement team as well as various constituent offices and departments throughout campus to provide pre-planning and onsite management of assigned engagement opportunities and programming • Generates ideas to create content for campus communications, social media and marketing and will communicate with alumni through emails and newsletters. Interviews alumni to develop content for college communications • Where appropriate, solicits new and increased gifts to the Wells College Annual Fund, and refers qualified major gift prospects to Wells College gift officers. • Regularly analyzes programming and makes recommendations for program refinement and is responsible for reporting, assessment and ROI for alumni engagement events and programs • Solicits each individual within the assigned portfolio for a financial gift to Wells College each and every year
Qualifications: • Knowledge of programming and event coordination, and the ability to develop high-quality alumnae/i engagement opportunities and/or special events • Working knowledge of fundraising principles • Strong knowledge of best practices in volunteer management with the proven ability to manage and train volunteers • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the proven ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency and collaboratively with colleagues from across the institution, while exercising discretion and diplomacy in all interactions. • Excellent skills in cultivating relationships with the ability to understand and tend to the needs of alumni body, enthusiastically, promptly and effectively. • Demonstrated collaborative approach with the proven ability to cultivate communication and foster team work with a diverse audience including alumnae/i, donors, faculty, staff, parents, and students. • Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile and analyze data and produce metrics. • Strong project coordination and organizational skills. • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically MS outlook, Word, and Excel. Other software proficiency in databases and web-based applications. • A high level of independence, with the ability to work effectively and successfully off campus with minimal supervision. • Proficiency in customer relationship management (CRM) systems • Ability to travel extensively. Attendance at evening and weekend events is required.
Experience: • Preferred: Experience as a leader in a volunteer setting • Preferred: Experience in a higher education setting as a volunteer or employee • Special consideration will be given to qualified candidates who are alumnae/i of Wells College • Demonstrated experience in volunteer management and program development • Experience in alumni relations or customer relations and engagement or related field
Education: • Bachelor’s degree required.
