Job Summary/Basic Function: Job Summary: The Communications Specialist will report to the VP of Finance and Operations, and be focused on technical writing and standardization of division policy and procedure documents. The position will also support an internal communication strategy to disseminate policies and procedures to the campus community and support change management..
What you will do:
Provide writing and editing services to update and standardize Lamar administrative policy and process documents.
Ensure the Manual of Administrative Policies and Procedures is accessible online and that content is searchable and current.
Write and edit content for web pages, news articles, newsletters, announcements, bulletins, video production, speaking notes and other communication vehicles to support focused change initiatives, as assigned.
Support regularly occurring publications such as annual report, financial reports, etc.
Collaborate across the communications, marketing and web teams, with the departments that are part of Finance and Operations, and University-level colleagues.
Assist team members with development of standards and practices for communicating internal information.
Manage challenging deadlines, with flexibility to work night and weekends when needed.
Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications and Requirements: Bachelors degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field or an equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates required knowledge and skills Commitment to understanding the evolving needs of the school and its many audiences. Sound business judgment. Demonstrated ability to create engaging written content on a variety of topics while under time constraints. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to simultaneously begin, manage and complete multiple projects while meeting concurrent deadlines. Establish and maintain strong and collaborative working relationships with key constituencies. Unwavering attention to detail. Work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to be an excellent problem solver in order to overcome obstacles and produce top-quality content.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred traits and qualifications, in addition to those above: One to three years of professional writing and communications experience Ability to adapt to rapidly shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment Ability to contribute to innovative and creative thinking that leads to solutions for communications challenges Ability to create and post content to web pages using appropriate and available tools. Ability to create and post social media content on channels such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc. Ability to learn and be proficient with relevant software and tools for electronic communications. Ability to assist in crisis communications
