Position Summary: University of Idaho Extension is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor, Extension Educator position. This position is a tenure track position located in the Butte County Extension office in Arco, Idaho. This position is also the County Chair for the Butte County Extension office and a $1500 stipend will be provided to compensate for administrative work this involves. Scholarship & Creative Activities: Recruit external funding and develop partnerships to support applied field research projects, and publish results in appropriate scholarly outlets. Outreach & Extension: Plan, develop, and implement agronomy, community & economic development and 4-H Youth Development programs. With direction from local advisory committees, develop and facilitate collaborative educational programs that meet clientele needs. Evaluate and report program impacts.
Document results from evaluation studies that measure whether participants in major programs gain knowledge and implement best management practices. Provide assistance in university outreach where appropriate. Promote UI Extension programs with clientele, elected officials, and other community partners through newsletters, websites, press releases, radio and television, and social media. University Service & Leadership: Serve as chair of Butte County Extension Office, supervising staff, meeting with commissioners, negotiating & managing the Extension office budget and marketing UI Extension to local stakeholders. Serve on University, CALS, Extension, district & community committees, boards and working groups as appropriate.
An earned Masters degree from an accredited institution in agriculture, plant science, agronomy, or closely related field is required by date of hire. Ability to organize and work with people, including recruiting, mentoring, and supervising volunteers. Computer literacy and effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to teach and lead group problem-solving and decision making. Competence in using technology for program delivery, record keeping and reporting, and team based communications.
At least 3 years of experience in Extension education or demonstrated ability and skill in agronomy and/or community and economic development (relevant experience acquired within the last 5 years preferred). Ability to communicate in Spanish, both orally and in writing. Experience in disseminating applied field study results through scholarly outlets. Demonstrated skills in organization and management. Demonstrated drive and initiative; proven ability to work with people of all socioeconomic levels and backgrounds. Ability to adapt research materials for effective oral, written and web-based presentations. Ability to work well in a team and provide effective instruction, support, marketing and promotion for Extension programs. Supervisory experience and proven ability to lead and mentor others.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Willing and able to travel and to participate in evening and weekend programs.
