Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe Vassar College Library is seeking a Library Specialist to join the Collections & Discovery (Technical Services) Department. This position will report to the Head of Collections & Discovery, and work with a team of seven Library Specialists. The incoming Library Specialist will be responsible for a number of functions relating to the processing and maintenance of the Main Library's serials collections.
Acquisition and vendor correspondence;
Receiving, payments, copy cataloging, shelving, and bindery operations;
Supervision of student workers;
Assist in maintaining certain aspects of the library's electronic resource collection;
Other duties as assigned depending on needs within the department, and the Library as a whole.
Qualifications Qualifications: Associate's degree or higher preferred; Previous experience with at least one aspect of technical services functions (acquisitions, copy cataloging, electronic resources, and/or serials) is required, and experience in a variety of technical services functions is strongly preferred; Previous library experience with OCLC, bibliographic records, and/or working with an integrated library system (such as Innovative Interface's Sierra) is strongly preferred; An understanding the importance of the Library's role in achieving the educational mission of a College or University. This will be demonstrated by coursework at the college-level and/or equivalent experience within an academic setting; Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Google suite is preferred; Ability to perform exacting work with attention to detail despite interruptions; Ability to multitask and prioritize appropriately; Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team and be able to understand the inter-relatedness of tasks; Must be highly motivated with a strong sense of responsibility and curiosity; Willing to be flexible, learn new skills and adapt and thrive in an atmosphere of change; Must be able to provide excellent service in a pleasant manner to library patrons and staff.
