Reporting to the Manager of DevOps, the Lead DevOps Engineer will work closely with management to design the next generation of CUIT's cloud deployment. The primary goal of which is to move the organization past replicating on premise processes and tools in the cloud. Instead, through a combination of automation and better utilization of cloud native services ? will deliver infrastructure more quickly and less resource intensive to maintain.
The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of best practices around infrastructure management tools such as Terraform or Cloudfront - as well as configuration management tools such as Puppet/Chef. They should be comfortable implementing Continuous Delivery patterns with a variety of tool sets ranging from Jenkins, Concourse, to AWS's Code pipeline. The Lead DevOps Engineer will also be charged with developing best practices in this space, tuning them, and assisting the organization adopt those practices.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: -Works with multiple project teams and partners to design solutions, components and interfaces to help drive CU to an automated virtualized/cloud environment. -Leads the solutions design and engineering to suit CU's requirements and guides the implementation and adoption of the solution. -Performs extensive hands-on design and engineering of automating infrastructure tasks and applications in a large environment. -Leads the installs, configures and performs functional testing of third party products; which requires a very good understanding of virtualization, storage, database, queuing, and networking technologies. -All other duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. -Minimum 5-7 years' related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: -Experience with systems automation and infrastructure and configuration management (Terraform). -Knowledge of DevOps principles and practice. -Experience with DevOps toolchain components such as ChatOps, Source Code Management, Configuration as Code, Continuous Integration/Deployment, Knowledge of integration tools (Jenkins, Bamboo), Orchestration toolsets, GitHub, Jira, etc. -Experience in a high-volume or critical production service environment. -Deep understanding of Linux fundamentals as well as OS commands/utilities. -Programming ability with at least one of the following: perl, python, php, or ruby and a shell language (bash, korn, etc.). -Knowledge of operational and security best practices. -Knowledge of monitoring and trending systems - i.e. nagios, graphite, statsd. -Familiarity with cloud environment (AWS, Azure). -Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership, urgency and drive. -Excellent written and verbal communication skills. -Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. -Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication and influencing skills, and technical expertise. -Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects. -Ability to be precise and attentive to detail is essential. -Ability to work with minimal supervision. -Ability to work weekend and off-hour work on occasion. -Ability to rapidly prototype solutions. -All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications: -5+ years of Linux System's Engineering/Administration experience. -3+ years of Cloud Native Experience (AWS/Azure) -Familiar with software packaging and code deployment. -Experience using Open Source Software (OSS). -Knowledge of any of the following: Java, Apache httpd, Tomcat, Kafka. -ITIL Foundations v3 certified a plus.
