The mission of the Indiana University Network Science Institute (IUNI), http://iuni.iu.edu/, is to promote research and development of the foundational aspects of network science such as theories, methods, analytic tools, to strengthen the practice of network science, and to foster collaborative, interdisciplinary network science approaches to understanding and improving the complex challenges of our world.
The IU Network Science Institute (IUNI) seeks an outreach coordinator to raise awareness of the work of network science at IU. This individual will work with IUNI leadership and project-specific teams to plan and implement new and ongoing outreach efforts with the university community and to build IUNI's national and international audience, while staying consistent with IU content and branding guidelines. The outreach coordinator will design, develop, and propose communications efforts including blogs, social media, and print items as well as coordinate outreach to professional research communities. The outreach coordinator will participate in event management and promotion for IUNI talks and events (conferences and workshops).
In addition to serving IUNI for general outreach needs, this position will also devote a portion of effort to the Shared BigData Gateway initiative (funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Studies, directed by IU Libraries, and involving IUNI technical staff and research faculty).
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field and two years of marketing, journalism, or communication experience.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a wide variety of individuals within a diverse environment. Strong organizational and multitasking skills including the ability to manage multiple priorities. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Two years of professional outreach, marketing, or communications experience in a university, non-profit, or business setting. Familiarity with social media management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite). Basic graphic design skills to provide layout for flyers and social media materials. Demonstrated skills with InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Familiarity with IU marketing, branding and communication guidelines and standards.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
The ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time, occasional need to move printed materials for events, up to 15 pounds.
