The English department in the College of Liberal Arts at Iowa State University are seeking qualified candidates for an Academic Adviser II or III position to advise students in majors within the English Program.
This position will provide individual advising to students, teach career courses, assist with student recruitment efforts, and report on undergraduate statics. In addition this position provides support to secondary English education students by working with the coordinator of the English education program and as a liaison with the Educator Preparation Program in the School of Education with the College of Human Sciences.
In addition to the duties above, the Academic Adviser III position will supervise grad assistants and mentor graduate students, supervise undergraduate work study and peer mentors or peer advisers, represent the department on college recruitment committees, assist in grant writing, coordinate special events for student development and develop retention programs for the department.
The successful candidate will possess a strong commitment to student success, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to resolve complex issues. In addition, the successful candidate will also have the ability to work with diverse populations including students, parents, faculty, staff, high school and community college counselors and advisers..
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's degree in a discipline of English education, counseling, or higher education. Ph.D in a discipline of English education, counseling, or higher education. Licensed in secondary education. Experience advising English students. Experience interacting with diverse student populations.
