The Assistant Director, Competitive Sports & Community Programming provides leadership, strategic planning, administration and day-to-day decision making for the delivery of a comprehensive collegiate competitive sports program within the Department of Campus Recreation. Through this work, the Assistant Director is expected to ensure an environment and experience that fosters a sense of community. maximizes opportunities for student engagement and learning and supports the overall well-being of the OHIO community. Primary areas of responsibility will be oversight to the Intramural and Club Sports programs consisting of Competitive Sports student personnel, Competitive Sports Graduate Assistants, and evaluates Club Sports Athletic Training Graduate Assistant, as well as advising club sport officers and the Club Sports Executive Council. Additional responsibility includes oversight and management of the Campus Rec Summer Camp and associated community-related programming components. Lastly, the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports and Community Programming is expected to promote and facilitate effective communication and collaboration across all efforts of the department, university and community partners to deliver a safe, quality end-user experience with Ohio University.
Program Development & Implementation (Competitive Sports and Community Programming)
Designs, develops, and implements a comprehensive collegiate competitive sports program including intramural, extramural and club sports. Develops, promotes, implements, and facilitates special events. Provides direction, guidance, and training to all club sports officers and advisers to ensure compliance with all departmental and university rules and regulations. Design, develop, implement, and facilitate the Campus Rec Summer Camp program and associated community youth programming components. Identifies community needs and initiates quality community-based programs. Evaluates each aspect of the areas of oversight and compiles statistical data on assessment, program evaluation, participation and satisfaction. Maintains current knowledge of trends and best practices in intramural sports, club sports and community programming to provide an inclusive program experience that meets the needs of a diverse campus community.

Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and mentors staff .Provides leadership and guidance, promoting integrity, accountability and teamwork. Creates a culture of feedback to improve operations and services. Anticipates future needs of students, the program, the department, and the division and makes proactive adjustments to staffing levels or structure to meet those needs. Develops and maintains working relationships, and positively influences and motivates staff. Encourages community engagement.
Resource Management & Stewardship
Responsibly manages university resources including but not limited to finances, people and equipment/inventory. Continuously evaluates operation efficiency, maximizes the impact of available resources and seeks opportunities to enhance and ensure the financial strength of Campus Recreation. Ensures that budgets are in compliance within University and Department guidelines, policy and procedures. Consistently monitors all revenue and expense budgets pertaining to area. Coordinates use of facilities with administrative staff to ensure proper and safe management and maintenance of all program facility space.
Risk Management & Safety
Develops, executes and evaluates a comprehensive risk management plan for all areas of oversight. Assures that all areas of oversight comply with State laws, University policy and regulations. Anticipates and identifies issues and areas of improvement, and produces viable and logical solutions.
Department & Student Affairs
Actively contribute as a staff member of the Department of Campus Recreation and Division of Student Affairs to uphold the framework of equity and social justice and the personal well-being of the university community. Demonstrates effort to understand individual and collective roles in creating inclusive environments with a perspective of Social Justice. Promotes equity through the (1) identification and removal of barriers, (2) facilitation of learning, (3) cultivation of community, and (4) empowerment of people. Addresses needs related to student development and well-being in order to increase retention, academic progress and graduation rates; including tracking the retention and persistence of marginalized identities. Advances cultural competency at Ohio University and the surrounding community through staff training, and by infusing cultural competency into Competitive Sports and Community programming.
