Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for conducting highly specialized and technical research. The individual will be primarily engaged in the design and synthesis of small molecule chemical tools or drug discovery entities and secondarily in their biological profiling for efficacy and mechanism of action in bacteria of global health relevance.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs various research and technical operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of a laboratory; may conduct independently or as assigned specialized research for a particular project.
Participates in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of the analytical and instrumentation functions with research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the research program.
Assists in the conducting of continuous program of research and development regarding new procedures and instrumentation functions of the laboratory.
As requested, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the overall research program of the laboratory.
Performs highly skilled techniques in investigating the design of novel computational approaches to drug discovery.
Participates in the synthesis of small molecular chemical tools or drug discovery entities.
Plans and executes experiments independently.
Assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows, technicians and laboratory assistants as required.
Contributes to writing manuscripts and reviews articles that directly result from his/her research.
Records and analyzes data from experiments.
Assists with the maintenance of the laboratory facilities, equipment and instruments.
Candidates are encouraged to pursue research grant opportunities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in a relevant science.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICALDEMANDS: This position involves prolonged standing, walking, and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment. Must perform complex procedures and demonstrate manual dexterity. Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6 1/2 feet. Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail. Vision capable of viewing gauges, computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
WORKENVIRONMENT: Lab environment. Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays when necessary to meet deadlines.
