Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mental Health Specialist IV for the Child & Adolescent Services – School Based Program at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
The Mental Health Specialist IV participates as a member of the school based program's staff assisting with therapeutic and special education services and provides ongoing supervision of children, individually and in groups.
Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team, by assisting in developing and implementing each child's treatment plan.
Assists Special Education Teacher in the classroom by providing education services.
Assists in implementing the classroom behavior management system.
Provides behavior crisis prevention and intervention.
Assists children with self-care skills and activities of daily living that encourage developmentally appropriate and independent behavior.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Successful completion of a one year training program as a Mental Health Specialist Trainee or one year of similar full-time experience in the mental health field.
An Associate's degree, preferably in a related field, including 12 credits in human services such as psychology or its equivalent, may be substituted for the minimum requirements of this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record for outreach programs.
Previous experience with children and adolescents (3 1/2 – 21 years).
Experience working in a classroom setting.
Must undergo a fingerprint background check at candidate's expense, as required by NJ State Law.
