Answer inquires and requests received by phone, email and in person from students/parents/and U of M departments concerning student account activity.
Review and analyze student accounts for accuracy and initiate corrections as required.
Interpret and explain U of M policies and procedures relating to student accounts and refer to appropriate offices as required.
Work with management and various departments to proactively reach out to students who have balances owed.
Resolves most questions and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels.
Pursue collection of past due student account balances.
Maintain records of collection efforts.
Research and review accounts to identify accounts to be written off and accounts to be collected.
Review accounts to be collected. Communicate with students with past due balances using a variety of methods. (Letters, emails, phone calls)
At appointed time, review accounts and send to student loan collections for further collection effort. Work with student loan collections if an account needs to be pulled back.
Post payments received from monthly statements.
Run queries to locate payments made on collection accounts.
Make recommendations to management pertaining to settlement offers.
Responsible for assessing monthly interest.
Apply appropriate holds to student accounts.
Work with students on setting up repayment plans and deferred payment agreements.
Process manual adjustments to student accounts.
Learn and understand the application of payment process.
Answer questions and provide documentation to support inquiries regarding account balances.
Prepare and send correspondence to students and others as needed.
Prepare paperwork for court cases.
Attend court as requested.
Create and maintain policy and procedure documentation.
In June, do the yearly write off process.
Review and process student account refunds.
Receive and review requests for late payment fee reversals and process if applicable.
Participates on the fee appeal committee
Assists with other tasks within the department.
Assist with student orientation as requested.
Represent the office at various university functions.
Research new processes or procedures for banner as requested.
Test processes and procedures in banner as requested.
Other duties and activities as assigned.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Two to five year experience in a similar position.
Good oral and written communication skills as well as good organizational skills.
Ability to communicate and interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to maintain composure and professionalism during difficult conversations.
Ability to operate basic office equipment, including a computer in a Windows environment.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
Bachelor Degree in business or accounting preferred.
Experience with Banner preferred.
Previous Customer Service Experience
Ability to work within deadlines.
Knowledge of Google Office suite.
Experience using Sal-Net
Be familiar with FERPA.
