The Director of Development - Corporate Relations (DOD-CR) fulfills an important role in UC San Diego's Advancement program. Under the general direction of the Senior Executive Director of Development - Corporate Relations (SEDOD-CR) and in collaboration with Corporate Relations (CR) colleagues, the DOD-CR has responsibility for planning activities and determining effective strategies designed to maximize corporate support of university philanthropic priorities.
Responsibility will focus on corporate donors capable of making gifts of $100,000 to $1,000,000, from a portfolio of strategically aligned institutional prospects. The DOD-CR is responsible for managing a prospect/donor portfolio in various stages of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, working collaboratively with CR colleagues, Advancement colleagues, faculty and leadership to explore and implement strategies and proposals in support of university priorities. The DOD-CR will conduct all activities in accordance UC San Diego guidelines and policies, including but not limited to those guidelines and policies related to Advancement, Contracts and Grants, and Research Affairs. The Director's portfolio includes many of the campus' most complex and important corporate partners. The Incumbent will be encouraged to operate autonomously and to exercise initiative and authority within general parameters set by the SEDOD-CR, and to represent the SEDOD-CR and the Department whenever necessary.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Demonstrated success at fundraising by developing and implementing strategic solicitation fund-raising plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences and strategies in-line with institution and academic goals in higher education and closing gifts ($100,000+) from corporations and foundations, both local and national.
Proven record of writing solicitations for a significant project/gift ($100,000 - $1,000,000, with an emphasis on gifts of $250,000 and above) directed to corporations and foundations.
Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including: gift policies, solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition and administration.
Expert written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.
Expert organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Expert project / program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program / project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.
Strong written and oral communication skills that demonstrate correct grammar usage, syntax and format, with the ability to make oral presentations and/or interpret various related programs to potential donors.
Demonstrated expertise to utilize on-line databases and other software to create, retrieve and compile up-to-the-minute documents and historical information for reports.
Expert knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
