The Choice Program at UMBC is an intensive community-based program providing services to young people in Maryland for over 30 years. The Choice Jobs Program is an important initiative within Choice’s broader vision and mission that prepares young people for the work world. The Jobs Program has three key components including curriculum-based job and life skills training, paid on-the-job training through employment at The Choice Program’s social enterprise, Flying Fruit, and supportive job placement services.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Choice Jobs Programming, the Assistant Director oversees the programming of the Choice Jobs teams as well as the functions of the Choice Jobs’ Flying Fruit (FF) locations. The Assistant Director provides strategic vision, leadership, and planning for Choice Jobs and direct supervision to the Choice Jobs Program Coordinator and Placement Coordinators.
Specific duties include:
Ensuring Choice Jobs training and programming meets all outputs and desired outcomes;
Providing strategic vision and leadership in program development, evaluation and improvement;
Marketing and brand strategy;
Evaluating and facilitating training for youth and AmeriCorps Members;
Establishing partnerships and representing the program in public relations and outreach;
Supporting social enterprise operations and efficacy;
and performing other duties as assigned.
Note: Due to the nature of the work flow and level of responsibility, this individual maintains a flexible schedule which goes beyond a 40 hour work week. Evening and weekend work involved.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's degree and one year (two to five preferred) of experience working in youth development, the application of anti-racist lens and practices, human services, or related fields.
The ideal candidate is versatile and well rounded. We are seeking a strong skillset in program management, investment in community service, business management and vision for capitalizing on and expanding our social enterprise and job training model.
Position requires use of automobile & valid driver's license.
Community service experience preferred
Entrepreneurial/business food management experience: point of sale, data entry, Excel, accounting systems, and inventory control experience highly desirable.
