Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume) :
Associate's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time field sampling and/or lab experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
Bachelor's of Science (foreign equivalent or higher) in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or related field. Experience working with onsite septic systems or sewage treatment plants. Experience performing water quality analyses including dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, total suspended solids, and other wastewater analyses.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Center for Clean Water Technology (CCWT) at Stony Brook University seeks a full-time Research Technician II to support efforts in field testing technologies to improve drinking and ground water quality. Working under general supervision, the incumbent will perform a wide variety of routine and semi-skilled tasks to support and directly assist an advanced research project in the lab. The appointed candidate will be capable of working independently, but also enjoy being part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists and staff. Excellent communication skills are essential.
Under the guidance of PI, conduct research and gather data using various methods. Perform field sampling of onsite sanitary systems, mesoscale field experiments, and drinking water treatment experiments according to established protocols. Coordinate sample acquisition and transfer.
Under guidance of PI, perform laboratory analyses, data analysis and write data reports.
Participation in lab meetings. Share results with collaborators.
Laboratory cleaning and maintenance of supplies according to SBU Laboratory Safety guidelines.
Other duties as assigned.
