TheResearch Assistant III is part of the Department of Physics & Astronomy atVanderbilt University and is a key individual contributor responsible forsupporting the research projects of the Vanderbilt Automated Micro-OrganSystems (AMOS) Core operated by the Vanderbilt Institute for IntegrativeBiosystems Research and Education (VIIBRE). This position plays an importantrole in VIIBRE's interdisciplinary research in the biophysical sciences,bioengineering, and medicine. Reporting directly to the Director of theAutomated Micro-Organ Systems Core, the Research Assistant III supports theresearch of numerous collaborators in VIIBRE projects funded by grants andcontracts to Dr. John P. Wikswo and that of researchers who commissionorgan-chip assays by the AMOS Core. TheResearch Assistant III will culture and maintain primary and inducedpluripotent stem cells, assist in the fabrication of microbioreactors, analyzeexperimental results, and help to prepare a variety of reports and records ofAMOS research activities. Other responsibilities include maintaining supplyinventories and assisting in the general operations of the AMOS laboratory.Successful execution of these duties is critical to the research aims ofmultiple investigators at Vanderbilt and collaborating institutions, and a highlevel of performance is expected.

Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain primary and induced pluripotent stem cell lines
Assist in the production of microdevices such as the NeuroVascular Unit and bubble traps
Report results using computer-aided data analysis software
Assist in protocol development
Assist in the assessment of instrument needs and procurement
Communicate in a timely fashion with teams of multidisciplinary scientists and engineers at Vanderbilt and collaborating institutions
Help maintain inventory
Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment
Assist in training graduate students and other research personnel
Profile of an IdealCandidate
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education is required.
At least three years of laboratory experience.
Previous cell culture experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
Experience in basic molecular biology techniques (tissue culture, PCR, western blotting) or experience in laboratory engineering.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, especially Microsoft Excel, and basic computer programming skills.
Enjoys working both independently and in a team.
