Assistant Director Applications Development - ITS 11222
Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Assistant Director Applications Development (Assistant Director). This position will oversee a core group of ITS Applications Developers responsible for cross-enterprise services and serve as a liaison between the university community (including WVU, PSC, WVUIT) and the IT organization in order to provide technical solutions to meet user needs.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Manage day-to-day operations of ITS Applications Developers including: recruitment, interviewing, hiring; performance management, training, motivation, professional development; overall direction, planning, assigning and directing work, while ensuring and encouraging staff empowerment to express initiative and creativity.
Analyze business partner's operations in order to understand their strengths and weaknesses and to determine opportunities to automate processes and functions.
Negotiate agreements and commitments by facilitating communication between business unit(s) and IT from initial requirements to final implementation.
Use knowledge of technology trends to bring solutions to business units supported to enhance the enterprise's competitive edge. When appropriate make recommendations for buy versus build decisions.
Attend appropriate training, conferences and seminars events to expand knowledge, track technology trends and establish/maintain peer relationships that will improve ability to serve this University; regularly participate at appropriate events by delivering presentations and/or papers that further (market) the University's presence in the technical and e-learning community as well as expand network of resources.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, certifications and work experience.
Master's Degree preferred.
Six (6) years of experience:
Management in a dynamic and fluid technical organization with a mix of full-time, part-time, and contract employees.
Leading developer teams and managing projects.
Working with various business units in a higher education environment.
