Available position as a Research Assistant II in Dr. Daniel Kohane's Laboratory for Biomaterials and Drug Delivery at Boston Children's Hospital, which focuses on novel research at the interface of biotechnology and materials science. This is an opening for a highly motivated individual with a one-year appointment, with possible extension based on excellent performance and continued funding, to participate in the development and in vivo testing of biomaterial devices for drug delivery and innovative medical therapies. B.S. or M.S. degree in an engineering or science discipline preferred. Responsibilities will include:
Chemical synthesis, formulation and characterization of small molecule and polymeric materials
Understanding and assessing the mechanical/physical/chemical properties of these devices, as well as in vivo evaluation of devices
Evaluating in vitro function of devices, biological assays/cell culture, and in vivo testing of devices in rodents
Compile and help analyze data, and prepare charts and graphs from results of studies
The ideal candidate will have had:
Previous experience or background knowledge in biomaterial development for in vivo applications
Previous in vivo experience and willingness to work with animals
Possess excellent time-management, communication and inter-personal skills.
Meticulous attention to detail
Practiced laboratory documentation skills
Commitment to producing accurate and high-quality work
Comfort summarizing and reporting results to researchers is required
Awareness of basic safety issues is expected, as is the ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment
