The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Medicine is seeking a Research Specialist with a molecular biology background to join our epigenetic and brain development lab. Primary function will be to execute high-throughput processing of tissue and fluid samples and isolate extracellular vesicles while maintaining strict quality control. The desired candidate must be comfortable executing tasks independently following set protocols, with minimal supervision from senior researchers.

Independently monitor day-to-day laboratory operations such as overseeing proper research documentation, tracking of inventory incoming samples including human and mouse tissue and fluid samples, coordinating with collaborators for shipping and receiving samples. Also, general housekeeping and equipment maintenance.
Preform research activities such as: processing samples for isolation of DNA/RNA and extracellular vesicles.
Perform independent projects and participate in the design of research studies.
Maintain meticulous experimental records using an electronic notebook.
Flexibility and time management skills will be essential for participating in multiple research projects and meeting deadlines.
Perform other duties as assigned, such as coordination and participation in meetings for translational research projects.
Education: Bachelors in Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Chemistry or in a field of study related to the research of the laboratory.
Experience: Three (3) years in laboratory research including two (2) in relevant research specialization involving DNA/RNA isolation and tissue processing.
Other: May consider a combination of directly related experience and education. Training for EV isolation will be provided.
* Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with at least 18 credits in a field related to the research of the laboratory, or Bachelor's degree in unrelated field with at least one year of experience in a field directly related to the research laboratory. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
