The Research Technician will be performing multi-modal mouse pre-clinical research projects as well as in vitro experiments that require tissue culture. The candidate must be willing to work with live animals and handle animal tissues and possess knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, neuroscience, developmental biology, and computers.
The incumbent will transplant human or mouse breast cancer cell lines or tissues (patient-derived xenograft) into the mammary fat pads of female mice. The candidate will then follow tumor growth by either caliper measurement or imaging technology (bioluminescence). Experience with handling mouse breeding colony, tail DNA, and genotyping preferred. The required lab skills include tissue culture, PCR, Western blotting and DNA purification and cloning. The incumbent should have the ability to multitask, good manual skills to handle small objects, and a good personality.
This position requires a high degree of attention to detail. Results must be accurate and well documented. The candidate must be able to cooperate, communicate and relate well to members at all levels of Medical Center. In addition, the candidate is expected to listen carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information.
The incumbent must be able to communicate ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Importantly, the candidate must maintain the confidentiality of all research information and must be effective in oral and written communication skills. Organization and timeliness are key.
Preferred Education and Experience: BS and/or BA degree in chemistry, biology or related sciences.
Bachelor's with focus on science-related work. Previous experience in mouse work.
