Position Summary: The Graphic/Multimedia Designer serves as a member of the Learning Abroad Center team; providing direction on website/application design content, initiatives, and strategies. Work includes development of website architecture, maintenance and management for all components of departmental websites. Duties are completed under the supervision of the Marketing Director.
CONTENT ORGANIZATION & WEB DESIGN – 60%
Serves as content strategist, flexing between detail task view and holistic website view
Masters familiarity of content in order to make global application/changes to sections of website (300+ pages)
Maintain a thorough understanding of business processes to increase the efficiency of web design solutions
Serves as webmaster and designer for LAC websites/web applications
Serves as system administrator and department liaison for the LAC Drupal content management system (CMS)
Coordinates all aspects of a new website/application design, including requirement gathering, design prototyping, usability & user experience (UX) testing and ongoing maintenance
Design and codes website using, but not limited to HTML, CSS, Git, and the Adobe Suite
Ensures World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) accessibility and UMN brand standards are met
Consults on and designs highly technical/experienced designs for University-wide publication, social media, and/or e-communications
Initiates and develops plans for graphic design products to support University communications and external relations strategies that promote a positive, high-quality image and are consistent with goals and standards
STRATEGY – 10%
Consults and collaborates with LAC content authors/experts to determine production needs, evaluate staff service levels and needs, and recommend short and long-term strategies to meet emerging needs
Social Media Strategy
Researches and integrates consumer technologies ranging from devices to digital platforms; verifying consistent communications
DATA REPORTING & CONSULTATION – 30%
Author Tableau Workbooks and Views, and co-manage the LAC Reporting Center
Create custom reports/applications and data visualizations PeopleSoft or other data and then manage the sharing of those custom reports/applications on our reporting platform system (Tableau).
Create one-time ad-hoc reports or data analysis, contribute to or in some cases manage the process of pulling, formatting and submitting data to outside entities
Develop and execute training & learning tools for web contributors, specifically to educate & develop LAC staff on our Drupal CMS
Manage Drupal CMS users and CMS staff training
Develop and execute training & learning tools for digital signage managers and social media managers in LAC
Conduct research, analysis and planning for various website related projects/initiatives
Document business processes and tasks
Other duties as assigned
A comprehensive understanding of how web content is prepared and deployed.
Experience using Drupal or other CMS, Git, databases (MySQL, Oracle)
Comfort using the command line
Previous work experience in a University/College campus or similar environment
