Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
The Mouse Transgenic and Gene Targeting Facility (MTGTF) is seeking applications for the position of Research Assistant to assist with the daily operation of the facility. This position will be responsible for (1) managing mouse colonies, including animal order and internal transfer, hormone injection (IP, SC), husbandry and weaning, mouse identification and tissue collection, post-surgery monitoring and reporting, etc., (2) scheduling, preparing, collecting and transporting mouse tissues (oviducts or epididymis) on campus for sperm and embryo cryopreservation or mouse line re-derivation; (3) monitoring and maintaining normal functions of equipment, as well as ordering supplies in the lab.
Education: Bachelorâ™s degree in biology or related field required (Bachelorâ™s degree in Animal Science or Biotechnology preferred), plus 1-2 yearsâ™ biological laboratory experience is required (experience in a transgenic lab or mouse care facility is preferred), or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Must be a team player
Ability to understand and follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Ability to multi-tasking and good organization
Strong attention to detail, superior work ethic, professionalism and organizational skills required.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Power-Point, Excel, and Email) required
Rotating weekend work for 1 to 2 hours may be required.
Background criminal and education check required.
