The Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute brings together the Alpert Medical School, the Brown University School of Public Health, other Brown university departments, affiliated hospitals (including Hasbro Childrenâ™s Hospital, Women & Infants Hospital, Bradley Hospital and others), government agencies and other community partners to address the needs of children. The Instituteâ™s four goals are: (1) Help make the communities we serve be the healthiest place in the world for children, (2) Address the issue of poverty in child health, (3) Be a national and international model for what can be achieved in child health, and (4) Train the next generation of child health leaders.
To help achieve these goals, we are recruiting for a new position of Communications and Outreach Manager. This positionâ™s primary responsibility will be to provide high-level communication strategy and support for the Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute. The incumbent will work closely with the Institute Director and Executive Committee to develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy to support the Instituteâ™s mission, including a dynamic web presence, active social media, productive relationships with media outlets, impactful public and professional events, and continuously improving communication among Institute partners and constituencies. The incumbent plays a key role as a member of the Instituteâ™s leadership team. The Communications and Outreach Manager will disseminate information on the Instituteâ™s work as well as opportunities to partner with the Institute, including funding announcements, training programs and partnerships. The Communications and Outreach Manager will also play a critical role in breaking down institutional barriers and build and help facilitate and expand the cross institutional partnerships to address the needs of children. This position will be responsible for the organization, updating, and consistency of branding and marketing related materials for the Institute. The incumbent will also play an important role in planning and implementing Institute activities and events. The incumbent also will serve as a liaison to Brownâ™s Office of University Communications to facilitate media interviews with Hassenfeld Institute faculty and leadership, and coordinate coverage of Hassenfeld Institute research and other activities.
Undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field.
Advanced degree or training preferred.
5+ years of experience in communications or a related field.
Communications expertise and ability to coordinate among various partners and constituencies are essential.
Knowledge and/or interest in child health is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills essential
Excellent interpersonal skills essential
Experience developing and implementing integrated strategies that span multiple outlets including print, web, and social media
Demonstrated time management, and organizational skills.
Experience working both independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability and flexibility to multi-task, prioritize, and manage diverse job responsibilities.
Excellent organizational and computer skills
Ability to work effectively in a deadline driven environment required.
Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with University and outside stakeholders to effectively implement collaborative initiatives.
Must be a team player with a strong service-oriented attitude.
This position is fixed term with a current end date of 06/30/21. Extension of position will be considered upon availability of funding
