The Chief of Security assists and works collaboratively with the Safety and Security Manager in the implementation of policies and procedures involving campus security; manages security personnel; plans, supervises and coordinates security shift operations; maintains a high level of customer service; compiles and analyzes data and prepares reports regarding campus security.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Develop and implement security policies, protocols and procedures in order to improve the quality of Campus Security services • Assist in emergency management and contingency planning • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws, regulations, and educational rights and privacy acts pertaining to security issues • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate security officers, developing basic and ongoing in-service training programs as necessary and assuring adequate staffing • Promote a climate and culture of diversity and inclusion • Collect and analyze security data to determine security needs, security program goals, or program accomplishments; create reports • Research, compile, and publish crime statistics as required by federal and state laws and regulations • Conduct, support, or assist in governmental reviews, internal evaluations, or assessments of the overall effectiveness of the facilities security processes. • Oversee the daily security service operations; plan and coordinate security operations for specific events • Respond to and investigate incidents, occurrences, and emergencies; coordinate security staff as necessary • Determine the effectiveness of the security program by performing periodic campus patrols; reviewing reports on incidents and breaches; leading audits; ensuring that all incidents and arrest activities are properly managed and documented. • Maintain formal and informal communications with the Duluth Police Department and the Duluth Fire Department. • Conduct educational programs for the campus community in areas of crime prevention. • Supervise campus parking procedures • Participate in committee assignments requiring security and threat assessment expertise • Manage budgets for security operations and monitor expenses
Education and Experience: Five years experience as a security professional or civilian/military law enforcement officer OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
