Soka University of America is offering a full time Mail Clerk I position.
Under the general supervision of the Mail Services Manager, the Mail Clerk I performs a wide variety of specialized duties involved in the support of Mail Services. The Mail Clerk I will be responsible for providing day-to-day support to the Mail Services Manager, assisting with sorting and distribution of mail packages for both internal and external offices, United States Postal Service and express, preparing packages for delivery and distribution, operating the mailroom service counter, tracking express mail through commercial carriers to assure delivery, determining cost of postage required for mail, and other mailroom functions as needed.
Necessary duties include but are not limited to:
Sorting and distributing mail including packages for internal and external offices from USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon, and other carriers.
Delivering and picking up mail and packages at proper locations.
Operating the Mail Center service counter.
Weighing, stamping, and/or arranging outgoing mail and packages according to Postal regulations and requirements, operating mail-processing machine as necessary.
Redirecting misaddressed items.
Maintaining logs of postage charges, receipts, forms and other records as required.
Maintaining the proper distribution of supplies to all Mailstops. Recording and stocking incoming supplies in the Mail Center and maintaining inventory and ordering supplies.
Updating reports and monthly calendar.
Candidates should have:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year experience operating in a mail room environment.
Ability to operate computerized shipping and mail management systems.
Ability to operate mailing equipment including mailing machine, postage meter, electronic weight scale and others as necessary.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with accuracy.
Demonstrated wise judgment, problem-solving skills, and the desire to learn new technologies.
A strong evidence of a spirit of collegiality and a strong service orientation.
Capacity for developing and sustaining effective relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
High ethical and professional standards.
Capacity to work well independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods of time and move and/or lift objects up to 70 pounds.
