TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Instructor of Mathematics (Tenure Track) – 3 Positions
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Mathematics Department of Westchester Community College (Valhalla, NY) has three (3) full-time and tenure-track openings for the fall of 2019. Instructional responsibilities for the positions include teaching 15 credit hours with 5 hours each week, per semester, in developmental and/or credit-bearing courses spanning the full range of two-year mathematics offerings. Summer teaching and overload opportunities are available.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics, with at least 15 graduate hours in mathematics, is required. One year of college-level teaching experience is also required. All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least two years of college-level teaching experience, preferably at a community college preferred. Additional preference will be given to applicants who have experience with classroom technology, student-centered pedagogy, and co-requisite teaching models. Familiarity with Quantway, Statway, and Open Educational Resources also preferred. Assess student learning through demonstrated reflective practice, including assessment of student learning. This includes ongoing formative assessments, as well as official departmental assessment. Manage classes and learning environments through fostering a positive classroom-learning environment by presenting information in a way that is inclusive to all learners. Support learning through student engagement - incorporating pedagogical strategies such as active learning, authentic and problem-based activities, and other successful teaching strategies into classroom instruction.
POSITION EFFECTIVE: Fall 2019
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $63,570 plus excellent benefits.
