The primary responsibility of this position is to provide creative group fitness programming, including the design, delivery and assessment of group sessions in varied formats. This position includes a role with supervision of group fitness personnel (45 session leaders and 2 Program Assistants) at the Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC), Intramural Center / School of Public Health building and auxiliary facilities. Personnel management responsibilities include working with Assistant Director for the purposes of recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, mentoring, and providing recognition for hourly staff; providing staff development opportunities; and developing employee resource materials. Program delivery responsibilities include the design, implementation, management, evaluation and expansion of group fitness programming and assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new strategic wellness and fitness programming.
This position reports to the Assistant Director, Fitness/Wellness – Group Fitness Programming and Wellness Initiatives. The Coordinator and Assistant Director are part of a highly collaborative fitness/wellness team that includes the Program Director for Fitness, Wellness, and Informal Sports, the Assistant Director, Fitness/Wellness – Personal Training and Wellness Programming along with various Graduate Assistant and Program Assistant positions. The salary range for this coordinator position is $32,000-$42,000 and Indiana University provides an excellent benefits package.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or health-related field and one year of prior experience hiring, training, and scheduling group fitness leaders. Experience leading group fitness sessions.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Proficiency with computer software, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and calendar/task management is required. American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist and a nationally recognized group exercise certification(s) strongly preferred. Standard First Aid, CPR/AED, Prevention of Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions certifications must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
Master's degree in Recreation or related field. Current 200 RYT Yoga certification. Experience in a higher education setting.
