Indiana University East, Richmond, IN, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Mathematics commencing August 1, 2019. Candidates for all full-time faculty positions should be “teacher scholars” demonstrating a strong desire to excel in teaching and maintaining an active research agenda. Candidate qualifications will determine the scope and responsibilities of the position. A terminal degree is required for the tenure-track position. Online delivery of programs is an increasingly important aspect of IU East enrollment strategy and preference will be given to candidates with experience in online education. The School of Natural Science and Mathematics offers B.S degrees in mathematics.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities include: Tenure-track faculty are expected to perform duties in teaching, research, and service. These include:
Teaching and developing courses across mathematics, particularly for B.S in Mathematics majors through the online setting.
The primary teaching responsibility will be upper-division mathematics courses, including graduate courses through the online setting.
Other multi-level mathematics courses, including statistics, finite mathematics or other upper-level teaching may be assigned depending on interest, qualifications, and school needs.
Develop classes for online delivery and aid in the expansion of the Mathematics online degree program.
Communicate subject matter clearly, correctly and effectively. Use methods, materials, and technology appropriate to the subject matter.
Manage the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports in a timely manner, and enforcing school and campus academic policies. Collect assessment data.
Demonstrate the ability to further the school and campus mission through service, such as advising, curriculum design, and assessment.
Terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in mathematics or a related discipline. 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics is required.
Demonstrated ability and interest in teaching a broad range of undergraduate courses, including abstract algebra, real analysis, probability and finance mathematics in the classroom, as well as online.
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and student success is essential.
Demonstrated experience in teaching mathematics.
Candidates with experience teaching online, developing courses, curriculum design and/or development are preferred.
