A Research Associate position is available immediately in Polly Hsu’s Lab at Michigan State University to study mRNA translation in plant responses to the environments. Candidates should have solid knowledge in plant molecular biology. A strong interest in either stress response or mRNA translation is preferred. Candidates should be responsible and have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as good communication skills. Capability to optimize and troubleshoot protocols is required.
Duties will include
70% Research (design, perform and document experiments, ex. generate/characterize mutants and transgenic plants, molecular cloning, DNA/RNA/protein-extraction, PCR, qRT-PCR, western blot, RNA-seq/Ribo-seq library constructions, tomato transformation, tobacco transient transformation)
30% Lab organization (ordering, organize/update chemical inventory and lab materials, safety officer duties, calibrating and providing regular maintenance for lab equipment, assisting in training future Lab members on basic procedures)
PhD in Biology
At least one first-author research article in peer-reviewed plant journal(s)
Solid experience in plant molecular biology
Extensive experience in molecular biology: molecular cloning; identify and generate higher-order mutants; perform gene expression analysis including DNA/RNA /protein extraction, PCR, RT-qPCR, western blot, luciferase assays; tomato transformation, tobacco transient transformation etc.
Experience with Arabidopsis or tomato, plant interaction with the environments
Excellent organization and communication skills
