This position for a Research III, Animal Care Technician is for one year.
The incumbent will provide surgical and technical support for large animal procedures performed by the Department of the Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine in pre-clinical research. The support will include, but is not limited to, performing surgical procedures, anesthesia induction and monitoring, post-operative animal care, drug administration, chart maintenance, animal ordering and transportation, and protocol maintenance. The individual will also be responsible for the maintenance and repair of surgical equipment, which includes surgical instruments, anesthesia equipment, and monitoring equipment.
The Animal Care Technician will also order and maintain supplies necessary to perform surgical procedures and post-operative care and procedures. The individual will be trained to perform major surgical procedures such as sternotomy, laminectomy, etc. and assist with training of postdoctoral fellows and students. The applicant should be highly motivated to learn, detail-oriented, able to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently. This individual will collect and organize medical and research data.
An Associates Degree in veterinary technology or related discipline with two years of experience in animal surgical procedures and postoperative care and procedures in a biomedical research facility is required.
Baccalaureate Degree in Veterinary Technology or related discipline and a minimum of two years of experience as a veterinary technician in surgical procedures and post-operative care in a biomedical research-based facility.
