The McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine is seeking a qualified Critical Care Assistant.
The Critical Care Assistant will participate and assist with all activities performed at McGowan Institute Pre Clinical Studies (CPCS), a 24-hour study management and veterinary critical care facility supporting both internal and external study sponsors; shift work including weekends and holidays may be required if assigned and must be acceptable to all applicants. As a member of the Critical Care Veterinary technical staff, the individual will assist with all aspects of the laboratory animal research as assigned within the capacity as a Critical Care Technician (CCT).
These areas include but are not limited to:
- Performing basic to advanced laboratory procedures, animal care, animal treatments and handling
- Providing technical assistance in surgery
- Providing supportive care to research animals undergoing anesthetic surgical events
- Providing post-operative patient recovery support and nursing care
- Assisting faculty and CPCS senior staff in end study procedures including necropsy support
In addition, all CCT personnel within the McGowan CPCS are required to provide direct support to both short and long-term studies involving the biocompatibility testing of investigational medical devices implanted in research animals assigned to non-clinical studies. This position requires the ability to provide clear assessments of animal health and articulate medical conditions to senior staff and principal investigators or execute changes to current medications/treatments when directed to do so. Incumbent must possess meticulous record keeping as well as strong organizational skills and can work independently as needed. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for the collection of study data along interactions with co-workers and investigators. This open position will require the successful candidate to observe and strictly adhere to all institutional policies in addition to McGowan Quality Systems. Strive to acquire the knowledge and ability through internal training opportunities to work in a multi-species non-clinical study facility.
Associate degree in veterinary technology preferred in related field or 4-5 years of experience in related areas will be taken into consideration.
