VENTURE BUILDER , MIT Innovation Initiative (MITii) , to lead a team through all phases of new venture discovery, conception, and launch. The position is not part of a business plan competition. Rather, the venture builder will originate ideas at MIT. Will identify research opportunities and guide ventures to successful exit from MIT; engage faculty, postdocs, and students; and assemble a team and spur and lead ideation. Responsibilities include working within the MIT ecosystem to formulate and explore new venture concepts based on breakthrough research and technology insights; facilitating broad engagement with students/postdocs/faculty; working with the Proto-Venture Advisory Board to lead discovery and exploration direction, potentially serving as a director of a founding scientific team and providing support for business development and similar strategic functions; representing MIT Proto-Ventures Program at external events; exploring the intellectual property landscape and defining opportunities for developing and capturing novel and broad intellectual property protection; defining key scientific experiments and establishing new venture plans and budgets; and engaging internal/external scientific and research experts.
REQUIRED : recent Ph.D. in a scientific discipline; experience in health care, artificial intelligence, or related area; experience in translation of technology, leading research teams, or building research-based ventures; excellent communication, analytical, leadership, and team building skills; ability to craft and convey a compelling vision of the future; and good judgment with confidential information. Seek someone who is adaptable and undaunted by technical and operational challenges to build a culture of innovation, perseverance, and agility. Broad understanding of all aspects of business (e.g., intellectual property, R&D, finance, manufacturing, marketing, sales), strategic planning/building skills, sound scientific skills, and strong operational focus preferred.
