Job Requisition Number: 26576. The Martin Lab is broadly interested in the ecology and evolution of adaptive radiation. The Lab uses large-scale field experiments, population genomics, ecological variation, behavioral ecology, functional morphology, and phylogenetic comparative methods to dissect this process at various stages.
The Lab is primarily developing two tropical field systems for studying the origins of adaptive radiation: 1) Caribbean pupfishes which contain remarkably localized radiations and 2) Cameroon crater lake cichlids, famous as putative examples of sympatric speciation.
The Fish Lab Technician will assist the Martin Fish Speciation Lab to provide care to fish specimen, and participate in organizing specimen and tissue samples. In addition, the incumbent may assist with training undergraduate assistance on lab protocol as well as accompany lab inspectors.
•Provides quality daily care to fish specimen, including feeding and cleaning tanks, to a variety of instructional fish as well as maintaining upkeep on fish room air and water filters and other equipment •Organize specimen and tissue samples and participate in after hours, weekend, and holiday animal coverage rotation •Train undergraduate assistance on lab protocol, including, fish rotation, and feeding schedule •Accompanies external and internal regulatory authorities on site-visits and inspections of facilities and program for the Martin Fish Speciation Lab as well as assist investigators in the development of AUPs that comply with campus, federal, and state regulations•Ability to carry out a range of responsibilities with only general direction •Requires thorough knowledge of biology and care commonly used in laboratory fish species and experimental methods •Requires effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively and provide coaching and training to staff •Must be computer literate; skills must support data entry tasks •Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff; technical, students, faculty, and administrators This is a full-time, limited appointment.
