The Floor Care Technician is responsible for cleaning and maintaining all carpets, upholstery, and hard floor surfaces on campus, including stripping, waxing, buffing, and polishing hard surfaces and shampooing/spot cleaning carpets and upholstery. This position reports to the Environmental Services Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Mop/polish tile and hardwood surfaces.
Extract carpets and upholstery using proper equipment.
Spot clean carpets and upholstery.
Strip and wax hard floors.
Refinish hardwood floors.
Operate buffing machine, auto scrubber and extractor.
Follow verbal and written instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
Lock and unlock rooms/buildings when cleaning; secure building when not in use.
Report unauthorized occupants and unsecured doors.
Participate in safety training as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.

3 years of work experience in all phases of floor care.
Work is performed primarily inside several buildings and occasionally in outside weather conditions.
Will be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
May occasionally work in high, precarious places.
Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, bend, stoop, and kneel in the completion of normal cleaning duties. Other repetitive motions are required.
Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Capable of kneeling and reaching on a regular basis.
Capable of lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 50lbs unassisted.
Good hearing and vision.

6 months of related experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver’s license (Must have had a valid driver’s license for at least 2 years).
Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check, physical exam and drug screen (including marijuana), pass PLU’s Driver’s Certification Training, and provide an original copy of their Driving Record (5-year Employment Abstract).
