As a member of the Residential Life leadership team, the Associate Director of Residential Life - First-Year & Second-Year Experience will provide oversight for the development and implementation of an integrated learning curriculum for first-year and second-year students. This position will focus attention on creating a robust experience that meaningfully engages students in opportunities that promote academic success, foster a sense of belonging and enhance overall well-being on a liberal arts campus. The Associate Director of Residential Life - First-Year & Second-Year Experience will be actively engaged in developing key partnerships across Macalester College including partnerships with faculty. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Residential Life.
Develop and implement a robust first-year experience and sophomore-year experience that centers around students’ holistic learning. Develop on-going assessment efforts including curriculum design and development, and student learning initiatives.
Engage and collaborate with partners across campus to deliver integrated learning initiatives that supports students’ retention and success. Specific partners include faculty, Academic Programs, Career Development Center, Center for Study Away.
Provide leadership for residential educational opportunities, identity development, and learning initiatives. Lead student staff selection process and training program.
Work collaboratively with Residential Life leadership team members to support student behavioral and mental health concerns.
Participate in campus-wide on call rotation and serving on campus-wide committees. Additional committee involvement may be assigned by the Assistant Dean for Residential Life.
A Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Educational Administration or a related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of post-graduate full-time experience.
Strong commitment to diversity and social justice with an understanding of how to advance a culture that is welcoming and inclusive.
Knowledge of first-year and second-year student transition experience. Knowledge of issues related to student attrition and retention.
Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and listening skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Professional experience in a housing and residential life setting and/or in a liberal arts learning environment.
Experience in the development and implementation of integrated learning opportunities.
