Campus Advocacy, Resources & Education (CARE) is the advocacy and prevention education office at UC Santa Cruz supporting survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/domestic violence, as well as their significant others and allies. CARE also promotes a sex-positive consent culture on campus through programming, training, workshops, and other outreach to students, staff and faculty.
The CARE Intake Coordinator works under the general supervision of the CARE Director and supports the daily functioning of the confidential CARE office. The primary functional area of responsibility for this position is serving as the first point of contact for visitors and clients to the CARE office.
*A partial-year career appointment is established to accommodate foreseeable seasonal fluctuations in staffing, operational, or other needs and contains regularly scheduled furlough periods during which the incumbent remains an employee and retains health benefits, but is not at work.
Please note that the CARE Intake Coordinator's furlough period is for 4 weeks in the summer (dates to be determined) and is unpaid time off.
Commitment to working in an organization dedicated to the anti-violence movement
Experience in assessment and referral of individuals who have experienced interpersonal violence, are seeking mental health services or other relevant client management experience
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) with demonstrated effectiveness interacting with students, staff and parents of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds as well as university staff and faculty, external agencies and groups, and the general public
Communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively with a wide range of people reaching out on behalf of survivors
Ability to exercise independent judgment and diplomacy while communicating effectively with a wide range of university staff, faculty, students and clients
Some special conditions include:
Successfully complete a pre hire criminal history background check;
Complete HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility) training within 30 days of hire;
Complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training every two years;
Complete and Maintain the 65-hour training certification for Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Counselors - (If candidate does not already possess the certification, unit will cover training costs and subsequent renewals.)
