The purpose of the position is to provide primary administrative support to the Department chairperson, and ad hoc support to the Department’s faculty and students as needed/determined by the chairperson. This position is responsible for completing daily, operational administrative support tasks as determined/required by the chairperson, and under the direction of the chairperson, will be vital to helping implement the academic, administrative and research goals/objectives of the Department. Though the position will incur some general assignments, the primary responsibility of the position will be to assist the department administration with maintaining the Department’s administrative and academic mission and requirements as part of its day-to-day operations; providing daily supervision of the department’s student assistants and coordination of associated work assignments; completing enrollment, class scheduling and course registration tasks; and in conjunction with approved University/State guidelines, implementing recordkeeping procedures/processes to maintain and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Department’s objectives regarding paperwork; budgets; equipment, technology and property inventory; faculty/graduate assistant hiring; etc. Also, as required/determined by the chairperson, this position will assist with executing the Department’s projected goals and efforts as regards grant/research, interdisciplinary collaborations, recruitment/student success, etc.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Department of History and Political Science is a newly restructured academic department within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; and offers Bachelor degrees in History, History Education, and Political Science, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in History Education. The Department serves approximately 160 majors, utilizing both full & part-time faculty; and offers service courses to meet the general education requirements of varied departments throughout the University.
