The Development Manager for Annual Giving and Engagement in the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) is a half-time position (0.5 FTE). The Development Manager directs the annual fund program (including mail, phone, and online) and is responsible for setting and meeting annual fund goals, in conjunction with the Office of University Development. The position will serve as liaison to the Office of University Development’s (OUD) Annual Giving marketing manager. The Development Manager will implement an engagement program and strategy for major gift prospects, including travel planning and logistics for prospective donor trips to the Institute of Marine Sciences, as well as lectures and events in the Carteret County area and other domestic locations.
This position is responsible for the following: (1) stewardship of annual and major gifts (i.e. acknowledgement letters and stewardship reports); (2) development communications (i.e., liaises with OUD marketing and other communications officers to craft development materials for work with donors); (3) ensuring that gifts are booked properly, reports are generated, and queries addressed; and (4) providing general support to the development program, including support for the Institute. The Development Manager reports to the Director at the Institute of Marine Sciences and works with the Office of University Development’s Constituent Programs Liaison.
Education and Experience:
ESSENTIALQUALIFICATIONS -Previous experience using databases, spreadsheets, basic software systems (i.e., Microsoft Office), and desktop design programs. -Demonstrated experience with fundraising/development systems. -Previous experience coordinating development events. -Previous experience designing and implementing annual and major giving programs. -Demonstrated ability to develop effective donor relations. -Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills, superb judgment, ability to take initiative and work independently, excellent organizational skills, and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. -Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences to resolve problems and answer questions. -Willingness to travel.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS -Appreciation for and desire to learn about the Institute, including the broad scope of research performed by its faculty, students and staff. -Previous experience working in an academic setting.
