Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Postdoctoral Fellow conducts highly specialized and technical research involving molecular/cellular biology and animal models of cardiovascular/metabolic diseases.
Designs, executes, and analyzes in vitro and in vivo studies of vascular cell signaling in diabetes.
Works with primary isolated endothelial cells/endothelial progenitor cells, biochemistry/molecular biology, cell/tissue culture, and transgenic and surgical mouse models of diabetes; performing in vitro and in vivo lentivirus-mediated gene transfer; conducting adoptive cell implantation for wounds therapy.
Prepares manuscripts, grant proposals, and scientific meeting presentations; participating in weekly lab meetings and monthly research seminars; and supervising research trainees.
Works independently as well as collaboratively.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Must have an MD and/or a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cellular & Molecular Physiology, Pharmacology, or an equivalent field.
Expertise in metabolism and/or cardiovascular research, is required.
Must have good organizational and documentation skills and demonstrate good communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICALDEMANDS: This position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment. Must perform complex procedures and demonstrate manual dexterity. Some stooping, reaching, climbing and bending. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet. Hearing and speech capabilities necessary to communicate with other researchers and staff in person, on the telephone and by e-mail. Vision capable of viewing gauges, computer monitors, charts, forms, text and numbers for prolonged periods.
WORKENVIRONMENT: Must be available to work flexible hours, including overtime on short notice and some weekends and holidays. May require working with transgenic animals, infectious agents and radioactive materials.
