The Career Counselor will provide professional career guidance and services to students and alumni affiliated with Northeastern University. Engages clients in conversations designed to stimulate thinking about career related topics. Demonstrates knowledge and advises students using social networking (including social media resources) for career development and job/internship search. Understands current labor trends and provide insight to clients on competing in this economy. Demonstrate knowledge of local, regional and national job searching strategies.
Services include assisting students in identifying career goals and the development of career interests, presentation of career related outreach and workshops to students and classes, administration and interpretation of career assessments. Assistance with all Career Services programming as needed i.e.- career fairs, etc. The candidate in this position will provide excellent customer service to students, alumni, and the community. The job will require working two evenings per week until 7:00 p.m.
Minimum of a Master's degree in career development and/or student personnel is required. 2-3 yrs. of career counseling experience is preferred. Demonstrated skill in presenting / teaching and working with a diverse population. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and an appreciation of diverse cultures and backgrounds is important. Ability to work in a team environment is needed. Strong computer skills are required.
